General Surgery Nocturnist - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

  • The General Surgery Nocturnist provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for adult and pediatric patients (18 months and older) across a full range of general surgical needs.
  • Perform emergency general surgical procedures, including upper and lower endoscopies, as needed.
  • Oversee and manage the care of surgical patients admitted overnight or transferred from the Emergency Department (ED), outpatient clinics, or other referral centers.
  • Cross-cover with inpatient General Surgery service, managing new admissions and ongoing care for patients.
  • The General Surgery Nocturnist responds to consults and admissions from the ED, outpatient clinics, inpatient services, and local referral centers.
  • Ensure consultation with the General Surgery staff for complex cases and consult with anesthesia team as needed for patient safety.
  • The General Surgery Nocturnist responds to emergencies, including trauma cases, and provide necessary surgical interventions during the nocturnal hours.


General Surgery Nocturnist - REQUIREMENTS

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree required.
  • Board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS).
  • Current DEA Certification is required.
  • Must have a Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in general surgery is preferred.
  • Must hold a permanent, full, and unrestricted medical license to practice in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
