J.R. Enterprise is seeking qualified Board Certified or Board Eligible Pulmonary/Critical Care Physicians to provide comprehensive pulmonary medicine and critical care services at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System (VACIHCS) in Des Moines, Iowa. This opportunity supports America's Veterans through direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings while working alongside an established multidisciplinary healthcare team.

This position offers the opportunity to practice a full spectrum of pulmonary and critical care medicine within a respected federal healthcare system while maintaining a predictable schedule and meaningful patient impact. 

Clinical Care

• Provide inpatient and outpatient pulmonary medicine services
• Deliver critical care consultation, diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment
• Evaluate and manage patients with complex pulmonary disorders
• Perform pulmonary consultations and follow-up visits
• Provide oxygen and ventilator management
• Conduct pre-surgical pulmonary evaluations
• Interpret pulmonary function testing (PFTs)
• Interpret sleep studies and overnight oximetry studies
• Manage home oxygen therapy and ventilator orders
• Complete Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations as assigned
• Participate in multidisciplinary patient care activities

Procedural Responsibilities

Physicians may perform procedures including but not limited to:

• Diagnostic bronchoscopy
• Bronchoalveolar lavage
• Endobronchial biopsies
• Navigational bronchoscopy
• Pulmonary function testing interpretation
• Critical care management services
• Related pulmonary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within granted privileges

Qualifications - Required

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
• Current, active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in:
• Pulmonary Disease
• Critical Care Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)
• Current BLS certification
• Current ACLS certification
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills
• Current DEA registration

Preferred

• Prior VA, military, academic, or large healthcare system experience
• Experience with electronic medical records
• Experience performing advanced pulmonary procedures and bronchoscopy
