This Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist will oversee 30 long term inpatient beds.  They currently have 15 beds and are expanding to 30, the patients will be both private pay and Medicaid.  These are high acuity patients, who have been hospitalized several times.  Stays are typically 6 months to a year, and patients are seen once a week.  There is an option to see some outpatients in the afternoon.   The residential facility is in Burien, a section of Seattle, which is 15 miles south of central Seattle.

Patients reside in 6 cottages, and the grounds are beautiful and therapeutic, the cottages have porches overlooking the lake.  They provide intensive psychiatric treatment for youths age 13-18 with serious mental health issues who have exhausted less-restrictive options.

This position will be a leadership role in the program, and will work closely with the Medical Director.  Due to state law, they need the psychiatrist to do a brief physical on intake, a primary care physician comes in once a week to do complete physicals (Dr Aarons from Childrens Hospital in Seattle), and the patients are being transferred from a hospital setting, so all medical records are in order.  This psychiatrist will be handling intake and admission orders, including conference calls in advance of the patient being admitted, will attend family treatment meetings

After intake, a psychiatric evaluation must be done within 24 hours, and the team schedules the psychiatrist so they are not over-scheduled with intakes and releases.  Call is phone only.

Essentially, this doctor will be seeing 6 inpatient/residential patient per day, the children are given a wide variety of therapies in the program.  In addition to these patients, the doctor could see outpatients in the afternoon, or the older population of 18-25 who are aging out of the system.  This is a very supportive environment, both for the patients and the staff.
