About the Facility – Oklahoma City Veterans Health Care System
This location consists of a 192-operating-bed VHA facility located in Central Oklahoma, serving 48 Oklahoma Counties and two counties in North Central Texas with a veteran population of over 225,000. The Oklahoma City VAMC also includes Community-Based Outpatient Clinics in Lawton, Ardmore, Stillwater, Altus, Ada, Enid, Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Wichita Falls, Texas. The Oklahoma City VAMC is also a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care.

RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
- An estimated 95% of the time is involved in direct patient care. Shall be responsible for clinic coverage, surgical coverage, on-call 24/7 (including weekdays, weekends, holidays), remote and onsite consultations, and any rounding related to patient care.
- Shall be responsible for providing orthopedic care, including but not limited to clinic and surgical care and comprehensive clinical orthopedic services.
- Shall be present in the operating suite for all orthopedic procedures.
- Rounds shall be conducted on postoperative patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and on the wards. All cases will be discussed in morbidity and mortality conferences, and the physician(s) will provide appropriate information for inclusion in departmental reports.
- Shall be present and on time for any scheduled clinics/surgeries start times as documented by physical presence in the clinic or OR at the scheduled start time.
- Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all orthopedic clinical or surgical patients.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Must have a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy.
- Licensure: Any state license is honored; must have a clean, full, and unrestricted license.
- Certification: Shall be, at minimum, board eligible by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery or the American Board of Medical Specialties. Must have BLS/ACLS certification through the American Heart Association.
- Experience: Must have two years of recent experience in arthroplasty procedures and orthopedic trauma/fracture care.
