Locum Tenens Emergency Medicine Job in Big Spring, Texas

1.  Contract Title:  Urgent Care Physician (Locum) for the West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS)

2.  Background: To provide coverage for Urgent Care (UC) Department estimate 15-20 patients per day.  UC coverage will consist of one (1) full-time equivalent employee (FTEE).  Contract staff is expected to work Monday through Friday.  The contract employee shall work an 8-hour shift per day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.  No acute trauma.  Physician must be board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Practice or Emergency Medicine and have previous VA Experience.

3.  Scope: The WTVAHCS Urgent Care facility is open five (5) days a week Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Urgent Care Physician should have BLS and ACLS certification.

SERVICES:  To provide coverage for Level II Urgent Care for an estimated 15 to 20 patients per day.  Urgent Care coverage to consist of:

1. 1 FTEE contract employee to work five (5) days per week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.  The urgent care treats patients with the following conditions:  URI – upper respiratory infections, bronchitis, mental conditions, CAD, CHF, internal medicine issues, orthopedics, urology, cardiology, psychiatry, and detox.  Contractor agrees that, upon request, they will provide backup coverage for hours not covered by full-time urgent care staff.  The VA will notify the contractor of any such need for backup provider coverage required.

 

The UC Physician will:

• Work with urgent care physician hospitalist, internal medicine residents, medical specialist, and surgical specialist for inpatient admissions from urgent care to community facilities;

• Ensure proper communication with the primary care and specialty physicians including admissions;

• Document progress notes, procedure notes, orders, Edis, encounters and orders are within the electronic medical record per WTVAHCS rules and regulations;

• Meet requirements for documentation for third party billing;

 • Ensure smooth and timely patient flow through the Urgent Care Department to acute care setting by coordinating timely acute patient admissions;

• Comply with all of The Joint Commission National Center for Patient Safety goals and accreditation standards;

• Urgent Care physicians should be oriented for one (1) full day prior to working in the Urgent Care Department.
