Permanent Administrative Job in Denver, Colorado

Site Medical Director – Family Practice

Our client in Western Colorado is currently in need of a permanent Site Medical Director for the ongoing development, growth and oversight/authority of site medical operations in collaboration with the clinic manager at the other 2 locations.

Requirements:

  • Education or Formal Training & Experience:
    • Licensed M.D. or D.O.
    • M.D.’s must be Board Certified in Primary Care Medicine.
    • Valid medical license/DEA registration in the jurisdiction of the facilities.
    • 3 years of experience in caring for underserved populations.
    • ACLS certification.
    • Electronic Medical Record competency and proficiency.
    • Effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of the interdependent roles of various allied health professions.
    • Bilingual fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
    • 3-5 years of leadership experience preferred.
    • 3 years of administration/management experience.
    • OB experience optional.
  • Physical Requirements and Workplace Environment:
    • Requires periods of standing and walking.
    • Essential to have ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 35 pounds.
    • Requires long periods of time sitting while on the telephone and/or doing computer work.
    • Requires sufficient near vision to be able to read documents and computer screen.
    • Must pass a criminal background check.
    • Annual Flu vaccine required. Employer will provide.
    • Obtain PPD for tuberculosis (annually if provider).  Employer will provide.
    • Obtain vaccine records for MMR, Varicella, T-DaP and Hep B.  Employer will provide.
    • OSHA Classification is Category I:  All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissue, or a potential for spills or splashes of these fluids.
    • HIPAA Classification:  Unrestricted Access: A workforce member with unrestricted access will have full access to patient’s protected health information, including the patient’s entire medical record, for patient care purposes.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Embraces the mission, vision and values of the Board of Directors of the Family Health Centers.
  • Site Medical Director Duties:
    • Participates in the organization’s strategic planning process.
    • Performs all duties as outlined in the Medical Doctor job description.
    • Participates in site-focused management.
    • Develops clinical goals and leads the clinical staff to successful achievement of goals as stated in the Strategic Plan.
    • Evaluates staff performance and reports to CMO.
    • Responsible for all site medical services and programs in collaboration with clinic manager.
    • Provides direct patient care.
    • Evaluates and maximizes site performance clinically and financially in collaboration with the Clinic Operations Manager (COM).
    • Responds to patient and staff concerns and complaints.
    • Works closely with the SAT (Site Accountable Team) and participates in (organizes with COM) Clinic Improvement Meetings.
    • Authors/reviews/revises medical care related policies, protocols and procedures as delegated by CMO.
    • Attends meetings and maintains contact with other organizations that affect the clinic’s mission including but not limited to; CCHN, local and state healthcare agencies and other human services agencies.
    • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Clinical Oversight Duties: Oversees performance of site Physicians, Family Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and reports to the CMO for the clinic’s location.
  • Provider Duties:
    • Makes competent health care diagnosis and treatment decisions.
    • Provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients, including performing history, physical exams and prescribing therapy; managing acute, chronic, and preventive care; and referring for hospital and specialty services.
    • Reads x-rays (initial interpretation), interprets laboratory results, outside test results and reports from outside consultants.
    • Provides or supervises patient information or education.
    • Assists in monitoring the quality of Laboratory, X-ray and other clinic services.
    • Provides input to the Health Care Plan, clinic improvements activities and the site team.
    • Supervises health care performed by family nurse practitioners and physician’s assistant, to include being available by telephone to provide back-up and information during normal office hours, when scheduled to work.
    • Reviews and signs charts as preceptor for physician assistants within two weeks of the encounter in accordance with provisions of the Board of Medical Examiners.
    • Assists in developing and monitoring guidelines for non-physician clinicians to use when physician in not on site.
    • Assists in developing and implementing guidelines for after-hours coverage.
    • Assists other staff in complying with any special conditions of grant awards, rules, regulations or laws.
    • Works with the management team to improve clinic productivity and to enhance the cost-effectiveness of health services.
    • Assists in the Quality Improvement program, development and implementation of quality guidelines and peer review.
    • Attends clinical and organizational meetings including clinic staff meetings, site team meetings, provider meetings and All-Staff meetings. Attends additional meetings as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer, including but not limited to: P&T, Quality Improvement, Collaborative and JCAHO committees.
    • Assists other staff to comply with any special conditions of grant awards, rules, regulations or laws.
    • Providers triage services after hours as required by the Site’s on-call schedule.
    • Participates in the JCAHO process.
    • Assists in provider coverage for unanticipated leave.
    • Assists with in-service training programs.
    • Adheres to the infection control policies and procedures.
    • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
    • Other duties as assigned.
