Permanent Psychiatry: General Job in Hermitage, Pennsylvania

REPORTS TO:  Executive Director

 

Note:  In addition to responsibilities stated herein, it is understood that the physician will adhere to the “guidelines for psychiatric practice in Community Mental Health Centers” for staff psychiatrist as developed by the American Psychiatric Association, and published in the July 1991 issue of the American Journal of psychiatry, pages 965-66 (attached).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.     Initial psychiatric evaluations on adult patients and periodic re-evaluations (no less frequently than annually for patients remaining in service).  Psychiatric services may be provided to children and adolescents to the extent of the physician’s comfort level and experience by agreement with Executive Director.

2.     Conducting evaluations on an emergency basis as needed.

3.     Prescribes medication based upon evaluation, and psychiatric follow-up of patients on medications as needed, but not less than a 3-month interval.

4.     Functions as member of multidisciplinary treatment team.  Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personnel, and participate in an atmosphere of mutual respect for the skills and experience represented on the team.  Coordinates with other providers, e.g., community physicians, agencies.

5.     Participates in family education when necessary.

6.     Responsible for delivering culturally competent, recovery oriented psychiatric care.

7.     Completes documentation, in a timely fashion, which meets standards established by JCAHO, licensing bodies and managed care/insurance companies.  Provides/Documents medication education.

8.     Progress notes are to be completed and signed at the time the service is performed, or by the end of the workday in which the service was performed.  Medication orders must be signed on the day of the order.

9.     Reviews, dates and signs lab reports and psychiatric assessments.

10.  Reviews health screening questionnaires and recommends follow-up referrals/examinations.

11.  Meets agency expectations regarding productivity (i.e. level of direct patient care provided) and adheres to generally accepted practices guidelines for conducting initial evaluations, re-assessments, and medication checks, in terms of time allotted.

12.  Maintains professional credentials, and provides documentation to be an approved provider for various payer sources.

13.  Participates in initial orientation with the CEO or clinical administrative and support staff.

14.  Participates as needed in internal agency committees.
