Medical Director of Geriatrics, Asante Health

 

Asante Health System has a tradition of recruiting preeminent medical professionals and is currently seeking a Medical Director to lead their Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology Services in beautiful Ashland, Oregon. The Medical Director of Geriatrics will provide clinical and administrative leadership to a team of inpatient and outpatient physicians and advanced practice clinicians, as well as a robust support staff including clinical nurse specialists and other team members.

The Medical Director will also be the first holder of a Medical Chair established by donors through Asante Foundation. This prestigious Medical Chair will provide funds for the use at the discretion of the Chairholder that can be directed for people, technology, facilities and programs that support patient care and research activities.

 

Asante’s Geriatric Specialty and Age-Friendly initiative at Asante Ashland Community Hospital will be the only hospital-based provider of this type in the Asante service area, serving 600,000 people in a nine-county region. Asante, in collaboration with philanthropic donors, plans to invest nearly $5 million to develop this service which is vital to our aging communities. The space at Asante Ashland Community Hospital will be specially designed and renovated to be aesthetically pleasing for geriatric patients with a focus decreasing the disorientation and depersonalizing effects of an unfamiliar environment. This is an important new service for Asante and is strongly supported by the communities we serve.

 

The Medical Director shall provide leadership to achieve the mission, vision, values, goals and objectives for the program. The Medical Director will be responsible for all aspects of the service line across all divisions, including growth, quality, and service education. The role is designed to be 50% clinical service and 50% leadership.

 

Highlights:

  • Serve as Medical Director and lead the development of the Age-Friendly Initiative for the region. Collaborate with Asante Foundation on fundraising for this initiative.
  • Build and lead an interdisciplinary team of specially trained physicians and nurses. 
  • Practice as a community-based physician in Ashland.
  • Embed age-sensitive principles at the hospital level and throughout the Asante system.
  • Develop clinical programs to serve our aging population.
  • Develop partnerships with local providers, long-term care facilities and other caregivers.


The successful candidate will be an experienced physician leader who has demonstrated success in a complex care environment. They will lead Asante’s efforts to design, build, implement, and collaborate with community partners, hospital services and departments towards achieving a high quality, effective, compassionate regional behavioral health service that provides a scope of services consistent with community needs.

 

Qualifications include:

  • Strong clinical leader with experience in leading geriatric service line.
  • Track record of driving improvements in quality and safety, with progressive leadership experience.
  • Provision of full range of geriatric services to assigned patients.
  •  Licensed as a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physician in the state of Oregon or able to obtain licensure, and certification in Geriatric Medicine.
  • Board certified and must maintain certification.
  •  Must possess good interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
  •  Must complete a satisfactory background investigation.
