Designated Institutional Officer (MD/DO)
Located in Chicago suburb, 25 minutes south of the city

Job Summary:

  • The Designated Institutional Official (DIO) is responsible for assuring compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and works in collaboration with the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC).
  • The DIO has authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of each of the ACGME-accredited programs, as well as for ensuring compliance with the ACGME Institutional, and specialty/subspecialty specific Program Requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • MD/DO physician license
  • GME and DIO experience required
  • Must have run a residency program before
  • Have 8+ years of experience (10 yrs preferred)

Expectations / Job Functions

  • Provide administrative oversight and educational guidance for all GME programs sponsored by or operated by the hospital.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and compliance with ACGME Institutional and Program Requirements.
  • Ensure that programs provide an educational curriculum as defined in the ACGME Program Requirements for the specialty.
  • Provide oversight of the overall GME Program, including but not limited to, activities of the GMEC, resident supervision, resident responsibilities, resident evaluation, compliance with duty-hour standards, and resident participation in patient safety and quality of care education.
  • Establish and implement procedures to gather requisite data, review information, and cosign program information forms and any correspondence or other documents submitted to the ACGME by Program Directors that either address program citations or request major changes in FHOF GME programs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete institutional GME files in compliance with ACGME and with institutional records retention policies. Review information and assure that all documents required by ACGME, and other GME regulatory and accreditation agencies related are submitted in a complete, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Assesses and monitors the responses by the programs to actions recommended by the GMEC. Ensures that s/he, or a designee in the absence of the DIO, reviews and cosigns all program information forms and any documents or correspondence submitted to the ACGME by Program Directors.
  • Assist programs’ appropriate use of milestones to assess residents' competence in areas as defined in the ACGME Program Requirements for the specialty.
  • Coordinate activities of the GME Office and supervise staff assigned to the GME. Assist the GMEC in fulfilling its goals.
  • Maintain effective communication with appropriate personnel of other institutions participating in the residency training.
  • Oversee and certify annual update of ACGME’s Accreditation Data System (ADS).
